The closest airport is Lisbon Airport (LIS).
Direct flights to Lisbon from the UK:
Gatwick → Lisbon: multiple daily flights via easyJet and TAP Portugal (~3 hrs)
Bristol → Lisbon: easyJet (~2h35m)
Manchester → Lisbon: easyJet, Ryanair, TAP Portugal (~2h45m)
Direct flights from Guernsey:
While there are no direct flights from Guernsey to Lisbon, you can fly direct to the Algarve (Faro) & from there take the train to Lisbon which is about 3hrs.
We’re so excited that you’ll be joining us in Portugal for our wedding! To make getting there as smooth as possible, we’ve put together some travel info and options for you. May is a popular month in Portugal, so we recommend booking as early as possible to get the best rates.
Casa Vela Hotel, Cascais
Casa Vela is a beautiful guest house in a quiet part of Cascais, surrounded by gardens and pools. It’s around a 10 minute walk into the centre of Cascais, so you’ll have plenty of restaurants, bars and the beach on your doorstep while still having somewhere peaceful to come back to.
There are a range of rooms available, including double rooms, rooms with balconies and kitchenettes, and larger suites. Casa Vela has 29 rooms in total, including 12 suites, so there should be options to suit different group sizes and budgets.
If you’d like to stay at Casa Vela, we recommend booking as soon as you can, as rooms are limited. They are offering a 6% discount for all guests staying for our wedding. When booking, just mention “Morais Wedding” in the Notes and special requests section of the booking form to receive the discounted rate.

Lisbon Airport → Casa Vela: approximately 30 km / 35–45 minutes by car
Casa Vela is around 30 km from Lisbon Airport (LIS). By taxi or private transfer, the journey should take around 35–45 minutes, depending on traffic. The hotel can also arrange airport transfers if required.
For anyone travelling by public transport, it’s also possible to make the journey by taking the metro/bus into Lisbon and then the train along the coast to Cascais, although a taxi or transfer will be easier with luggage.
Where to Stay
We’d love for you to make the most of your time in Portugal and turn the wedding trip into a holiday.
Our wedding will be at Palácio da Fonte Nova, in the Sintra area, but we’ll be staying in Cascais at Casa Vela.
Cascais is a great base for the wedding weekend — and somewhere we hope you’ll enjoy spending a few extra days.
It’s a seaside town with beaches, restaurants, bars and plenty to explore, and it’s also well placed for visiting Sintra and Lisbon. Casa Vela is in the historic part of Cascais, with the main areas of town within walking distance.
So whether you fancy a day at the beach, exploring the palaces of Sintra, heading into Lisbon or simply relaxing by the pool, there’s plenty to keep you busy around the wedding.
We’d love for as many of you as possible to stay nearby, so that we can make the most of having everyone together before and after the wedding, but obviously feel free to stay wherever works for you.
Getting to the Wedding
Cascais → Palácio da Fonte Nova: approximately 25–30 minutes by car
The wedding venue is a short drive from Cascais, in the Sintra area. From Casa Vela, we expect the journey to take around 25–30 minutes, depending on traffic.
We’ll arrange/share more details about transport to and from the wedding closer to the time, so you won’t need to worry about organising your own way there.
Staying elsewhere
Of course, you’re very welcome to stay wherever suits you best. Cascais has lots of lovely hotels and guest houses, and we’d recommend staying in or around central Cascais so that you’re close to the rest of the group and can easily join in with any plans we make around the wedding.
A few options we’ve found and liked the look of are:
Hotel Baía – right on the seafront in the heart of Cascais, overlooking the bay and close to the marina, restaurants and beaches. There are a range of rooms, including sea-view options with balconies.
Westlight Cascais Chalet – a small, stylish adults-only boutique hotel right in the centre of Cascais. It’s just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach and around five minutes from the train station, with some rooms offering beautiful sea views.
Villa Vasco da Gama – a boutique guest house in a 19th-century villa, with a garden and pool. It’s in the heart of the historic centre and within walking distance of the beaches, restaurants and marina.
These are just suggestions, so please feel free to find somewhere else that works best for you.

🚖 Getting around..
Do I need to hire a car?
Probably not!
If you’re staying in Cascais, most of what you’ll want for the wedding weekend is within walking distance, and we’ll be providing transport to and from the wedding itself.
Cascais is very easy to explore on foot, and there are also taxis and Bolt & Uber available.
There is a train station in Cascais with regular services along the coast towards Lisbon, making it possible to explore Lisbon without hiring a car.
If you do want to hire a car
Car hire is readily available at Lisbon Airport and in the Cascais area. It could be useful if you’re planning to explore further afield or spend a few days travelling around Portugal.
However, we don't think it's necessary for the wedding weekend itself.
Parking at Casa Vela
The hotel has parking options, but these are not dedicated complimentary hotel spaces. Parking is available in the surrounding area, including paid street parking. Casa Vela can also arrange car hire if required.

How it Works
Download the app before you arrive (Uber or Bolt).
Enter your destination (villa, hotel etc).
The app shows a fare estimate before you confirm.
Tips
For larger groups, consider booking multiple cars or request Uber Van / Bolt XL for up to 6 passengers.
Airport pickup spots: Both apps have designated pickup points outside the arrivals hall — follow the signs to the correct zone.
